HIGHLIGHTS
Hidden away in the sand dunes of a quiet bay about 20 miles south of Loreto lies El Santuario Eco-Retreat, situated in an environmentally sensitive natural landscape with vast open water views. The Sea of Cortez and famed Loreto Islands National Marine Park are known worldwide for a wealth and unmatched diversity of marine life. Whales, dolphins, and many varieties of jumping fish are often seen from the beach, and our view includes the two uninhabited islands of Isla Danzante and Carmen.
The retreat offers a unique opportunity to unwind at a serene sandy cove where the Baja desert meets the Sea of Cortez. Set your clock to nature’s time, be free of demands and expectations, and discover a profoundly rewarding and healing experience.
Retreat Facilities ...
Enjoy simple living by the sea in individual secluded bungalows called "casitas." Some are nestled privately in the white sand dunes while others overlook the beach and beautiful secluded bay.
Kick back in your hammock, relax, and watch the natural world slowly revolve around you. Each casita is very separate from all other structures and is quite private. Each has either one double or two single beds. Lighting is powered by solar electricity. There are no telephones, faxes, or computers to interrupt nature's perfect energy flow. However, a cell phone and internet access are nearby in the unlikely event of an emergency ...
At the retreat, food is prepared for you in an open-air kitchen by local Mexican cooks. All the food is as organic as possible and always fresh. A variety of local fresh seafood is seasonally available and locally grown fruits and vegetables will satisfy the most discerning vegetarian diet.
Don't worry about drinking the water here. It's pure and fresh, running right out of a mountain spring well in the Sierra de La Giganta mountains behind the resort.
Behind the kitchen is this small porch highlighted by a "chimnea," an area used for enjoying intimate fireside conversation. Or use the larger, enclosed fire pit area for music and conversation under the stars. Please take note that we do have animals on our grounds. Your pets are welcome too, ask us about pet rules and policies.
The showers and toilet facilities are located a short walk from your casita through the fine desert sand, and are also built with sensitivity to the environment. With water being the desert's most precious resource, the run-off from the showers is re-used to water the plants! Special composting toilets were specially designed just for this delicate desert location; they're very user-friendly and aesthetically quite pleasant ..
The retreat is an ideal gathering place for groups. A large yurt (30 feet in diameter) is available for group gatherings or solo time, including yoga, music, dance and meditation. It can even be used for sleeping, if necessary.
We're happy to make arrangements for families and work groups, as well as groups led by therapists, teachers, naturalists, healers, writers, dancers, and others who wish to facilitate collective experiences.
The intimate nature of this eco-retreat is aimed at maintaining a peaceful and joyous space for groups and individuals alike. It's the perfect spot for family vacations as well as reunions ... So bring the kids along too!
Activities at the retreat ...
Self-guided hiking, snorkeling, swimming.
Guided activities, such as kakyaking, hiking, are optional and billed separately.
Other retreat activities can include, massage and facials, horseback riding, and canyon hikes. It is preferable to arrange these activities in advance so that they can be made available during your stay.
Excursions by panga (motorized skiff) can also be arranged, including sport fishing, Sea of Cortez whale watching (for fin backs, blues, pilots, humpbacks and occasional orcas), day trips to Magdalena Bay (during gray whale season, February thru mid-March). Also, depending on weather and tides, many visitors have enjoyed a day trip to soak in some wonderful thermally heated tidal pools at the edge of the Sea of Cortez! The more advanced notice we have to arrange these activities, the better. Please contact our office and speake with one of our Baja specialists for assistance.
