TULUM / PLAYA DEL CARMEN - First and Last night.
Turquoise water, White sand, Beachfront bungalows, Ruins, and Gift shopping

All participants should arrive and depart from Cancun International Airport. Once in Cancun you will seek transportation of your choice to Tulum. We recommend the $10 u.s. bus ride. Tulum's small town charm draws from a mix of European, Spanish and indigenous influences to offer a truly cultural experience on the Caribbean coast. It is also home to some of the most beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise water in the Caribe. The main boulevard is lined with boutiques, small hotels, shops, bars and restaurants. While in Tulum we will visit the ruins of Tulum - an ancient walled city with dramatic views overlooking the Caribbean.

Our last night will be spent in Playa Del Carmen and we will visit the Mayan-themed "ecological theme park", Xcaret ("e-shcaret"). In the late afternoon we will venture into Xcaret where we will be greeted by the sounds of tankules (wooden drums) that resound through the afternoon silence. We will follow a stone path through the jungle that will lead us to a Mayan ball game court. There we will watch a reenactment of the pre-Hispanic ball game played by the Maya. At sunset, we will tantalize our taste buds with a traditional dinner and be spectators of the best folklore show in Mexico and the best known worldwide. It is a splendid feast of color, sound and traditions.

Available: Tulum - beach side bungalows, Playa - four star hotel or a guest house.

LAGUNA BACALAR / MAYAN RUIN COORIDOR
Ruins, Mayan villages, Crystal blue fresh water, Mangroves, Tropical forest

We will explore the Lagoon of Bacalar, 50 miles of turquoise water extending through a tropical haven of mangroves, forest and savanna.  Laguna Bacalar is the second largest sweet water lake in Mexico and still the best-kept secret.  It is located in the southern part of the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, just 4-hours from Cancun, and it sits near the boarder of Mexico and Belize. Bacalar lagoon is linked to the Bay of Chetumal by Rio Hondo and the Chaac canal. The perfect place to access the mayan ruins of Kohunlich and Chacchoben. We spend our time kayaking the labyrinth of mangroves, exploring Mayan ruins, snorkeling and swimming and relaxing on the shore's edge of the breathtaking crystal blue lagoon.

Available: Botadero Base Camp or luxury bungalows or retreat center.

CARIBBEAN REEF / MAHAHUAL
Barrier reef, Reef island, Mangrove rivers, Caribbean fish & bird life

We will pass through the town of Mahahual, which has a central plaza with saltwater pools and "swim-up" style bars, for fresh tacos and ceviche. There are several jewelry stores and many small shops selling local souvenirs. Continuing 13 miles south of the town center, we will make our home where the barrier reef approaches the shore line creating coral reef gardens and ideal inner reef paddling conditions! While kayaking we can anarchy our kayaks at any moment to jump into the Caribbean for a swimming, fishing or snorkeling adventure! We will spend our days exploring the reef by kayak and snorkeling and just plain relaxing! This unique location also provides us with access to an extensive estuary of mangroves. Daily yoga & free diving lesson will be offered.

For those who have a desire to visit one of the jewels of the Caribe, Banco Chinchorro, we will be able to offer you the best rate! Banco Chinchorro is a large coral reef atoll that has been declared a marine sanctuary by the Mexican government. Limited access means that very few divers have had the opportunity to visit this underwater wonderland, which is located approximately 30 kms from the mainland.  Chinchorro covers approx. 800 square kilometers (300 sq. miles), and is comprised of three small keys, Cayo Norte, Cayo Centro, and Cayo Lobo. The water inside the barrier reef is 3 to 5 meters deep (10 to 15 feet); beyond the outer reef are a variety of dive sites from 10 to 40 meters in depth (30 to 130 feet). It is the perfect place for divers and snorkels alike as most sites are along walls that offer shallow enough water for the snorkel and plenty of depth for the diver.

Available: Beach side camping and beachfront bungalows.
